The Heritage of the Swedish Christmas Pig
The illustration of a Christmas Tomte with pigs in a basket nods to the deep-seated traditions of the Swedish Jul dinner. Historically, pigs were butchered in the fall, but "Christmas pigs" were spared until Lucia time, making Christmas the only time of year people enjoyed fresh meat. While preservation methods have changed, the tradition remains, and modern Swedish holiday dinners still feature favorites like ham, brawn, and pork sausage.
This Swedish-made paper pullout celebrates this rich history, making it a perfect decorative piece to honor traditional holiday customs.
