The Story of Losgodis - Back in the 1930's, selling candy via kiosks started to become more common in Sweden. Candy in the pick and mix formats or as the Swedes say, losgodis (loose candy) or smagodis (small candy) were not allowed in Sweden for many years. Still in the 1970's buying candy was quite an elaborate process. The loose pieces of candy would lie under a glass pane or case and you had to ask the clerk as you pointed out the ones you wanted so that he or she would fill a small bag for you. In 1984 the Swedish Food Agency recommended to the Swedish Board of Health to allow customers to pick and mix the candy themselves and that concept started to spread. Today the Swedes pick their own losgodis in separate containers, with a spoon in supermarkets all around Sweden.
