The Legend of Santa Lucia
The story of St. Lucia is rich with history and symbolism. The candles in her crown represent the fire that refused to take her life. According to medieval legend, Lucia brought food to the hungry in the Swedish province of Varmland during a famine, famously crossing Lake Vanern in her white gown and crown of lights. While the legend originated in Sicily, it has become a beloved symbol of hope, light, and goodwill throughout the holiday season.
